Tour to Le Mans Classic 2010

It's about one year since I wrote here about our trip to the Le Mans Classic 2008. you still can find the article if you browse few pages back. There is also a gallery with many pictures from this event.

I promissed I will return to Le Mans Classic some day.
And it took not too long. Now we are planing a trip to the 2010 event, this time in a larger group with colleagues from the Czech Classic Car Club and other similar in cars involved enthusiasts. Also Automuzeum.cz joined the idea of this trip.

Official webpage of LMC 2010 is not running yet, organisers promise to launch it at the end of 2009, but some pieces of information are available. The date is from 9. to 11. July 2010, the official brochure and inscription bulletins were already issued.

This time we inntend to make a trip in several days in lazy pace (I will not lead) with our beloved four-wheeled darlings in direction to Le Mans.

We will set off for the trip on Sunday 4-th of Jully morning and will stop on some interresting places. There are many various options.

Small old town and castle Landenburg which is known for it's anual classic car meeting and hill climb race. See http://www.langenburg-historic.de

Nürburgring and it's famous long track Nordschleife, where we maybe could drive on. Prices in 2009 are 23 EUR for one round or 76 EUR for 4 rounds, dates for 2010 are not yet listed and tickets not yet on sale. See http://www.nuerburgring.de/en/feel/green-hell-nordschleife.html.

Relatively „new“ circuit Hockenheim, where are regrettably no any dates four tourist rounds in July 2010. See http://www.hockenheimring.net/termine

Natural and turistic attractions like the Eifel highlands, valley of the river Mosel and another famous wine country Champagne. We could visit a wine cellar and see how this wine is made.
Look perhaps on the page http://www.terroir-france.com/wine/champagne.htm

There are many interresting towns on the way - Trier, Luxembourg, Reims, Paris and Orleans. Before the end of the trip we arrive to the famous manor houses country, the Loire valley.
See http://www.chateaux-de-la-loire.fr/chateaux_of_the_loire.htm
For sure we can't see it all, but there is plenty we can pick out from.
On Thursday evening we should arrive to Le Mans where we will camp for few days.

Second group, composed by those who unfortunately don't have time enough and will drive more or less directly there and back, will join us in Le Mans.

The race of historic cars on the famous Le Sarthe track, where the famous 24H Le Mans takes place, together with the visit of the pits and hopefully also a ride on the track with our own cars should be the culmination of the whole trip. On Monday morning we will set off for the way home, just with one night somewhere on the way.

On Google Maps you can find a map with interresting places on the way

or also on Google Earth

Finally some notes.

  • Who doesn't have a classic car in condition good enough for such a long trip, could take a modern car.
  • If somebody doesn't have a codriver or passenger, there are others who don't have a suitable car and would like to get a lift and contribute for petrol.
  • On automuzeum.cz is article about this event named "Udělejte si dovolenou na Le Mans Classic 2010" (only in Czech).

We are back home. Everything was superb except the weather. It was simply too hot to enjoy the event right.
